Underfloor heating has become one of the most popular ways to heat new buildings in the UK, not only because it heats the room more evenly, but because it heats from the floor up it gives the same warm feeling of a conventional radiator systems at a lower temperature and can save you up to 20% on your heating bills.

The affordability of underfloor heating systems now means that people are installing them into their existing houses and because each room can be done one at a time it is perfect for restoration and refurbishing projects. Underflooring heating systems are relatively easy to install and can be done as part of a DIY project or alternatively fitted by an underfloor heating supplier.

There are two main types of underfloor heating; water underfloor heating and electric underfloor heating. As the names suggest one uses hot water to heat the room and the other uses electricity to heat the room. Both types of systems have their advantages; water underfloor heating kits are ideal for new extensions or room updating and can be easily incorporated into an existing central heating system.

Electric underfloor heating systems are ideal for laminate and carpeted floors, as well as tiled floors and are easier to install for the DIY enthusiast. These systems are fully programmable via an underfloor heating thermostat and can be automatically controlled throughout the day and night to suit your exact needs.

Relatively new to the market is solar underfloor heating, these systems use aluminium solar panels that weigh only 8kg each and can produce hot water or heating come rain or shine. Solar underfloor heating systems are great for proving heating for the house, domestic hot water or heating for an indoor or outdoor swimming pool.

Underfloor heating kits can be bought for various room sizes from 4.74 square meters to 26 square meters and are easily fitted into rectangular or square rooms; these kits can also be shaped to order for more complex room designs. Heating mats usually cover approximately 90% of the floor space to provide an efficient heating system.
