The Energie Domestic Hot Water system represents a significant step forward in solar water heating. It is the only solar system that will generate hot water come sun, rain, during the day or at night. It will even work down to - 5 degrees C!
This is due to the construction of the panels and the liquid used in them. The panels are made of aluminium, measure 2m x 0.8m and weigh only 8kg. The liquid that is pumped through them is R407 or R134A - more commonly used in refrigeration but here used to harvest heat from the atmosphere. Both these liquids are environmentally friendly.
Once the liquid has been passed through the panel and has absorbed heat it is passed into an expansion valve where it turns into a gas. The gas is then compressed and passed into a heat exchanger - which is where it gets hot and passes the heat to the water.
The result of this process is Domestic Hot Water (DHW) at up to 55 degrees C produced even when the sun is not shining or it's not particularly hot outside.
